Bio: Relevant Education and Experience Science is a unique subject that can be learned by observation, experimentation and discussion. It is a process that involves comparing and connecting information. It is important to have an open mind. In seventh grade we will be learning about all the organ systems in the human body with brief lessons on flowers and other vertebrates. Our group work will include using the microscope and othere scientific tools to enhance our lessons. We will disect owl pellets, eye balls, flowers and frogs. Conscientous objectors will be excused from some disections. Eighth grade is devoted to essential concepts in physical science with an emphasis on chemistry. Our group work, depending on the abilities of the students, will include many "wow" experiments. All students will design and plan an experiement for the science fair. Each student is expected to present and display his/her science project. ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ WELCOME TO EIGHTH GRADE SCIENCE Ms. Terry Mostowitz-Roth
Our oldest students study physical science in their last year at Ashar. In April we will begin the unit “Electricity, Magnetism and Electromagnetism.” In the electricity unit we will be studying static and current electricity. An important part of every science lesson is an experiment to illustrate the subject matter. We will learn about open and closed circuits and the two general type of circuits -series and parallel. We will do experiments with conductors and insulators . While learning about magnets we will compare the Laws of Magnetic Poles with the Laws of Electrical Charges. We will build electromagnets and determine how to increase their strength. We will contrast building a magnet using electricity to inducing an electric current using a magnet. Eighth grade students are now preparing for the science fair in May. They may work alone or with one other partner. These seniors must choose a topic that relates to our studies this year in chemistry or physics. |
